Subject:  Is there money in cattle?

I plan on eventually going in to farming sometime in a few years (I live in Central IL).  I have mainly considered doing crops (corn, soybeans).  I have some land that my dad ones and I know some possible renters.  I was wondering it I could raise some cattle also.  I have access to some hay land but would probably have more later.  I have been told that there is no money in cattle, but I was wondering if it could be done.  I was planing on having feeders (correct me If I am wrong, I know more about crops then cows.) which I would raise to market weight.  If I had the land, hay, and corn for the later part of their feeding time, could I make it work.  As I said before I do not know very much about cattle, but I plan on doing some more research and seeing what my possibilities are.  I mainly am looking at this as a way to diversify my operation, so it would be more then just a hobbie.

Thank you

I hope I did not sound like an idiot, but I would just like someone else's opinion.
