South Africa is a great country with many possibilities in the agricultural side.

A company called Harvestime was formed in the Perserverance area which is a suburb of Port Elizabeth in the late 1970`s.

This company was a privately owned company with shareholders and was profitable but no money was ploughed back in the company for maintenance which allowed the company to decline.

The company was sold to various stake holders i.e. Foodcorp which also bought Table Top and amalgamated the two and then again sold it to Pillsbury Brands Africa which in turn sold it to I & J who closed the factory in Port Elizabeth and continued with the George based factory which was way out as the required infrustructure which was available in Port Elizabeth was not taken into consideration when the factory in Port Elizabeth was closed.

This lasted for less than three years as all the vegetable factories which were in Springs in Johannesburg , George in the western cape and the Potato chip factory based in Delmas was sold to the current owners McCain.

The point I am trying to make is ,How can goverment allow this to happen?

The entire Eastern Cape is agricultural land which spreads from Port Elizabeth , west as far as the Tsitsikama , east as a far as East London and north as far as Cradock and Grahamstown. These are farming communities. We have so many farmers which had been supplying vegetables to the Port Elizabeth factory which just had to accept the decisions taken by inconsiderate people who do not take their workers wekl being seriously enough and use them as pawns.

The closing of the factory had disrupted many lives as all who were offered alternative positions had to sell up and move or be without a job and mouths to feed.

Why can the Goverment not come up with a solution to help all by growing crops which will support the farmer due to the shortages and high vegatable prices.

Job creation both on the farm and then allow for jobs to be created in the Port Elizabeth area which has a high amount of jobles and starving people.

BUILD ANOTHER HARVESTIME .

All the expetise is still availble and would therefore not require overseas labour imports.
